Cottage
Our self-catering cottage nestles in a peaceful valley amid unspoiled wild countryside – excellent for quiet enjoyment, walking and birdwatching. The cottage provides very clean and comfortable accommodation, ideal for two people and with the option of either double or twin beds. The furnishings and equipment are to a high standard with consideration for all those small details which are important in ensuring a trouble free, relaxing and enjoyable stay.
There is always wildlife to observe even from the breakfast table. All around the buildings we have incorporated safe nesting and roosting places for birds and bats -–stock doves, pied wagtails, redstarts, spotted and pied flycatchers, blue and great tits, swallows and house martins, pipistrelle and long-eared bats. Many other birds and small mammals are encouraged by feeding, badgers, foxes and owls can be heard at night and you never know what might fly overhead – red kite, peregrine, goshawk …
We have our own small nature reserve which has exceptionally rich and diverse habitats and wildlife for you to enjoy, before setting off to explore the adjoining RSPB Carngafallt Reserve, the National Trust’s Abergwesyn Common and the Elan Valley Estate. For the enthusiast we have various items of equipment available to use – a portable hide, moth trap, binocular microscope, sweep nets and pond-dipping nets and a wide selection of natural history reference books.
Richard, who was an RSPB Warden for over 25 years, is an accomplished field naturalist with an intimate knowledge and enthusiasm for the wildlife and countryside on his “own patch”. If you have any questions about wildlife or need any bird watching advice during your stay he is always happy to help and if you would like more of his time and guidance he can arrange to escort people for a day or half-day bird watching and looking at other wildlife.
